Contest generates over 200 new extensions for the award winning browser

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – March 1, 2006 – Mozilla Corp. today announced the winners of its Extend Firefox Contest. These add-ons boost Firefox’s functionality and provide users with a range of new customization options.

Mozilla launched the contest to encourage a new wave of extension development for the browser and showcase the talents of extension authors for Firefox. A panel of renowned judges picked the winners from more than 200 submissions received at the Mozilla Developer Center Web site. The winning add-ons bring new capabilities to Firefox 1.5 and also include several strong updates to popular Firefox 1.0 extensions. Winning extensions are available for free download at https://addons.mozilla.org. The contest winners include:

  • Best Upgraded Extension: Web Developer by Chris Pederick

“A huge thanks goes out to all of the Extend Firefox participants, judges and sponsors, who together made the contest a great success,” said Mozilla Corp.’s Christopher Beard, vice president of products. “It was a hard decision to narrow down the winners considering the creativity and ingenuity on display. Our extension developers are really helping to reinvent the Firefox Web browsing experience.”

Contest winners will receive prizes from Alienware and O’Reilly & Associates, who have supported the contest since its launch in November 2005. The Grand Prize winners will receive a powerful desktop system featuring customized Firefox graphics.
